Are there any age requirements for the sale of medical cannabis?
Yes, there are age requirements for the sale of medical cannabis in New Jersey. According to the Compassionate Use of Medical Marijuana Act (CUMMA), anyone who wishes to purchase medical marijuana must be at least 18 years of age. Furthermore, all purchasers must show proof of age through valid government-issued identification. The CUMMA also stipulates that the person purchasing the cannabis must be a qualifying patient, meaning that they must have received a recommendation from a physician who is registered with the Medicinal Marijuana Program. Patients must be diagnosed with a qualifying condition such as cancer, HIV/AIDS, multiple sclerosis, or inflammatory bowel disease. Patients are also required to register with the Medicinal Marijuana Program in order to obtain an identification card which they must present when purchasing cannabis. This card must also list an assigned caregiver, if applicable. In order to purchase medical marijuana, individuals must provide proof of age and of their patient status. Those who do not meet these criteria are not allowed to purchase cannabis, and doing so is punishable by law.
