What are the penalties for selling cannabis to minors?
In New Jersey, it is illegal to sell cannabis to anyone under the age of 21, even if the minor has a medical marijuana card. The penalties for selling cannabis to minors in New Jersey are severe. Any person who sells or furnishes cannabis to someone under 21 is guilty of a disorderly persons offense, and shall be punished by a fine of up to $1,000 and/or a term of imprisonment of up to 6 months. Furthermore, any person convicted of this crime is subject to a mandatory driver’s license suspension of 6 months. Additionally, any person who sells or furnishes cannabis to someone under 18 years of age is guilty of a crime of the fourth degree, and shall be punished by a fine of up to $10,000 and/or a term of imprisonment of up to 18 months. Lastly, if someone is convicted of selling cannabis to someone under 21, and the person to whom the cannabis was sold is under 18, then he or she is guilty of a crime in the third degree. This carries a fine of up to $25,000 and/or a term of imprisonment of up to 5 years. In short, the penalties for selling cannabis to minors in New Jersey are severe and should be taken seriously. Selling cannabis to minors is illegal in the state and punishable by fines and/or imprisonment.
