What are the penalties for selling cannabis to minors?
In Pennsylvania, it is illegal to sell or otherwise transfer cannabis to someone who is under the age of 21. Violating this law is a misdemeanor of the first degree and can result in significant penalties. If an individual is convicted of selling cannabis to a minor, they can face up to five (5) years of imprisonment, a fine not to exceed $15,000, or both. Additionally, a conviction for selling cannabis to a minor requires an individual to register with the state’s drug offender registry and the state’s Megan’s Law registry. The penalties for selling cannabis to minors may also depend on the amount of cannabis involved and the individual’s criminal history. For example, if an individual has two or more prior convictions for selling cannabis to a minor, they face a mandatory minimum sentence of two (2) years in jail and a $15,000 fine. Furthermore, if an individual is caught selling a large amount of cannabis to a minor (over three pounds) they can face up to ten (10) years of imprisonment, a fine not to exceed $100,000, or both. It is important to remember that selling cannabis to a minor is a serious offense that is harshly punished in Pennsylvania. Anyone who is charged with this offense should immediately seek legal counsel from a qualified attorney.
