How do I report consumer fraud to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)?
If you think you have been a victim of consumer fraud, then you can report it to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). You can report it online, by phone, or by mail. To report online, you can go to the FTC’s website at www.ftc.gov/complaint and click “File a Complaint”. You should then provide as many details as you can regarding the fraudulent activity, including the name of the company along with a description of the product or service you purchased, when the transaction occurred, and any information about the person or company who defrauded you. You can also report consumer fraud to the FTC by calling 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357) from Monday to Friday between 8am and 8pm. When you call, a representative will ask you for the same details you would provide if filing a complaint online. Finally, you can also report consumer fraud to the FTC’s Postal Mailing Address: Federal Trade Commission Consumer Response Center 600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC 20580 When filing a complaint by mail, you should include all the details of the scam and any supporting documents, such as a copy of a receipt or other correspondence. It is important to remember that filing a complaint with the FTC will not necessarily get you a refund or compensation. However, your complaint will be recorded and may be used by investigators to help uncover and prosecute fraudsters.
