How do I register intangible assets, such as copyrights and software, in China?

Registering intangible assets, such as copyrights and software, in China is an essential part of doing business there. The first step in the registration process is to file an application with the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO). This application must include information about the asset, such as its title, description, and creator. SIPO will then review the application and determine whether it meets all the requirements for registration. Once the application is approved, the applicant must pay a filing fee. After the fee is paid, the registration office will issue a registration certificate to the applicant. This certificate is proof that the intangible asset is now protected by Chinese law. After the registration process is complete, the applicant must then apply to the Copyright Protection Center (CPC) for a copyright registration number. The CPC will review the application and determine whether or not to issue the registration number. The applicant must also provide evidence of the copyright and pay the registration fee to the CPC in order to receive the number. Once the registration number is issued, the applicant can then register their asset as a work of copyright with the National Copyright Administration. This is done by filing an application with the Administration. Once the application is accepted, the registration is complete and the asset is protected under Chinese law.
