How long do I have to file an appeal in a construction accident case?

In a construction accident case in California, you have a limited time period to file an appeal. Generally, you must file a notice of appeal within 60 days of the date of the judgment. However, if the judgment was entered more than 180 days before the notice of appeal is filed, then the court may extend the deadline for filing the notice of appeal. If the court has granted an extension, you must file a notice of appeal within 180 days of the date the judgment was entered. The notice of appeal must be filed with the court which decided the case. You or your attorney must also deliver copies of the notice of appeal to the other parties involved in the case. If you do not file a notice of appeal within the given time limits, the court may deny your request to appeal the case. Once the notice is filed, the California Court of Appeal will decide whether or not to hear your case. The Court of Appeal generally has up to 90 days to make its decision. If the Court of Appeal decides to hear your case, it can take anywhere from one to two years for a final decision to be made. It is important to adhere to the deadlines set by the court, as an appeal may be dismissed if the required deadlines are not met.
