What consumer rights do I have when it comes to internet purchases?

In Delaware, consumers have a number of rights when it comes to internet purchases. According to the Delaware Consumer Fraud Act, consumers are entitled to fair and honest business practices and items purchased should remain in satisfactory condition. Additionally, businesses must provide purchasers with accurate and full information regarding products and services being purchased. The Delaware Consumer Fraud Act also protects consumers from deceptive marketing practices. This includes false advertising, bait and switch tactics, and incomplete or misleading information. In the event of deceptive marketing practices, consumers are able to seek compensation through the court for any damages incurred. Consumers also have the right to cancel a purchase within three days of the initial purchase date for certain types of purchases. This is known as the “3-day right of rescission” and applies to purchases of goods or services over $500. It is also important to remember that internet purchases are subject to Delaware’s Lemon Law. This law protects consumers from purchasing goods that are defective or do not meet certain quality standards. If a consumer has purchased an item that does not meet the standards of the Lemon Law, they are able to request an exchange or return the item. Finally, for any internet purchases, consumers should make sure to document their purchases and keep all receipts and packaging. This documentation can help protect consumers if an issue arises with their purchase.
