When it comes to debt collection, Delaware residents have certain rights that are protected by law. Under Delaware consumer protection laws, debt collectors must treat individuals respectfully and not engage in deceptive, unfair, or abusive practices. One important consumer right concerns communication with debt collectors. Debt collectors must provide individuals with appropriate notice of the debt and the amount owed. Furthermore, it is illegal for debt collectors to contact individuals at inconvenient times, such as before 8am or after 9pm. Debt collectors are not allowed to harass or threaten individuals.
