What are the legal consequences of entering into a civil union?
When individuals enter into a civil union in California, they are agreeing to a legally recognized arrangement that defines their relationships as partners that are given certain legal rights. Finally, it is important to note that civil unions in California do not carry the same rights and privileges as marriages in the state. This means that some of the benefits that are offered to married couples, such as certain tax benefits, are not available to a civil union. Additionally, civil unions are not recognized in some states, meaning individuals in a civil union may not have the same rights depending on where they live.
