What is the appeals process?

The appeals process in Nevada is a legal procedure that allows a party to have a higher court review a decision made by a lower court. This process starts when the party initiating the appeal, known as the appellant, files a Notice of Appeal with the district court. The Notice of Appeal alerts the other party, known as the appellee, that the appellant is challenging the original decision. The appellee usually has a certain period of time in which to file a response to the appellant’s Notice of Appeal. Once the Notice has been filed, the appellant must submit a legal document called a brief which provides the appellate court with the reasons as to why the appellant should win the appeal.
