What types of injury can be caused by a defective product?
In Utah, a defective product is one that does not perform as safely as it is intended to, or as it was promised to when purchased. Defective products can cause a variety of injuries, ranging from minor scrapes and bruises to much more serious physical, psychological, and financial harm. For example, a defective product with a faulty electrical connection may cause an electrical shock, resulting in burns, scarring, or even death. A defective toy with sharp edges may cause cuts or other physical injuries. A malfunctioning vehicle part, such as a seatbelt, could cause serious trauma in the event of a crash. Product defects can also cause psychological injuries, such as fear, anxiety, and depression. Additionally, a defective product can cause financial loss. For instance, if a product causes physical damage to property, then the owner of that property may incur costs to repair or replace it. In Utah, dangerous products are regulated by laws enforced by the Utah Product Safety Commission. These laws are in place to protect consumers from injury or harm brought about by defective products. If you believe that you have been injured by a defective product, you should report it to the Commission and seek legal advice.
