What is the Uniform Commercial Code?

The Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) is a set of laws governing commercial transactions in the United States. It was developed in the 1950s by the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws for the purpose of unifying the different commercial laws that had been enacted in each state. The UCC is currently in effect in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. In South Carolina, the UCC is part of the state’s Dangerous Products Law. The main purpose of the UCC is to regulate the sale and lease of goods and services, as well as other aspects of commercial transactions. It covers a wide range of topics, including warranties of title, implied warranties of merchantability and fitness, and limitations on consequential damages. The UCC also specifies the rights of buyers and sellers, including the right to reject a product that is not as specified in a contract. The UCC is an important part of the Dangerous Products Law in South Carolina. As such, businesses in the state must be familiar with this legislation and comply with its requirements. This is especially important for businesses that are involved in manufacturing, selling, or leasing products, as they are responsible for ensuring that the products they are distributing are safe to use. Failure to comply with the UCC can result in significant legal penalties.
