What is the Uniform Product Liability Act?

The Uniform Product Liability Act (UPLA) is a Maryland state law that regulates the standards for product liability law in the state. The law is meant to provide additional protection to consumers if they are injured by a defective or dangerous product they purchased. Under the UPLA, manufacturers and sellers of products are held strictly liable for any injuries caused by a defective product. This means that even if the manufacturer or seller did not act negligently, they can still be held liable for any injuries or harm caused by their product. The UPLA also contains a warranty requirement which states that all products must come with a warranty of at least one year. This means that if a product is found to be defective after a year of purchase, the manufacturer or seller is liable for replacing or repairing the product, or refunding the customer’s money. The UPLA also states that any damages resulting from a defective product must be paid in full by the manufacturer or seller. This includes medical costs, property damage, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related expenses. Overall, the Uniform Product Liability Act is an important law in Maryland that protects consumers from dangerous or defective products. By strictly holding manufacturers and sellers liable for any injuries or financial losses resulting from their products, the UPLA helps to ensure consumer safety and protect people from harmful products.
