What are my rights as a disabled employee?
In Texas, people with disabilities have certain rights when it comes to employment. According to the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), employers are not allowed to discriminate against a job applicant or employee because of a disability. Additionally, employers must make reasonable accommodations for disabled employees and provide equal opportunities for advancement. Under the ADA, employers must provide reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities. This can include providing tech-based assistive devices, making physical modifications to the workplace, or adjusting policies and procedures. An employer cannot require a disabled employee to work outside of their disability if it would create an undue hardship. Additionally, the ADA prohibits discrimination in the form of unfair pay, demotion, or limiting advancement opportunities. It also prohibits retaliation against disabled employees who exercise their rights under the law. The ADA also requires that employers make sure their job postings and hiring practices are accessible to people with disabilities. Overall, the ADA protects disabled employees from discrimination in the workplace and ensures they receive equal opportunities in terms of pay, promotions, and job advancement. Employers must provide reasonable accommodations to enable disabled employees to do their jobs, as long as doing so does not create an undue hardship.
