What is a Vocational Rehabilitation Plan?

A Vocational Rehabilitation Plan (VRP) is an educational and professional program designed to help individuals with disabilities attain the skills needed to participate in the workforce. This program is offered in the District of Columbia to individuals who meet certain criteria and qualify for disability services. The VRP is based on an individual assessment of the person’s abilities and disabilities in order to create a custom-tailored plan. This plan focuses on skill-building and job coaching that will assist the individual in transitioning into employment. After a person has been assessed, a plan is created with specific goals and objectives that will help them acquire the necessary skills to reach their desired job. The plan also includes job searches, on-the-job support, and a variety of other services. Through this plan, the individual can receive resources such as career counseling, job training, and support in the transition from school to work. The plan is monitored by qualified professionals who track the progress and adjust the plan accordingly. The VRP is an important part of disability planning in the District of Columbia. With the help of this program, individuals with disabilities can gain the skills needed to be successful in the workplace and reap the benefits of employment. It provides an opportunity for individuals to achieve their professional and personal goals and achieve self-sufficiency.
