What are public benefits?
Public benefits are programs and services that are provided by the government to people who need financial assistance due to disability, age, or other circumstances. In Washington, public benefits can be found through a number of state and federal programs, including Social Security, workers’ compensation, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and State Disability Insurance (SDI). Social Security is a federally funded program that provides disability, retirement, and survivor benefits. It is available to those who meet certain criteria, such as paying into the system, or being eligible for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Workers’ compensation is a state-run program that provides benefits for work-related injuries and illnesses. It is available to employees who suffer an injury or illness due to the job and who meet the requirements set forth by their employer. SSI provides income support to people with a limited income who may not otherwise qualify for Social Security. It is available to those who are disabled, blind, or elderly. State Disability Insurance (SDI) provides income replacement for workers who are unable to work due to a non-work-related illness or injury. This program is offered to both full-time and part-time employees. Public benefits are an important part of disability planning law in Washington. They can provide much-needed financial assistance during difficult times and can help individuals become more self-sufficient.
