What is a HIPP program?

A HIPP program stands for Health Insurance Premium Payment. This is a program available in Rhode Island that helps people with disabilities pay for their health insurance. Through the program, qualified individuals can receive financial assistance with their health insurance premiums and/or services. Eligibility requirements for the program include: having a disability, being a Rhode Island resident, and being eligible for Medicaid. Individuals with disabilities who are paying for their own health insurance without the help of an employer are also eligible to apply. Additionally, individuals who are in the process of transitioning from a traditional health insurance plan to Medicaid may also qualify for HIPP. When applying for the program, applicants must provide documentation of their disability, proof of Rhode Island residency, proof of income, and evidence of their health insurance coverage. Once approved, individuals can receive up to 100% of their health insurance premiums or services paid for by the HIPP program. The purpose of the HIPP program is to provide financial assistance to those individuals who may have difficulty in paying for health insurance otherwise. This program helps Rhode Island residents with disabilities maintain their health and well-being by ensuring that they can access necessary healthcare services without the burden of large health insurance costs.
