What is a HIPP program?
A Health Insurance Premium Payment program (HIPP) is a state program that helps Texans with disabilities pay for their private health insurance premiums. This program is available for residents of Texas who have a disability and qualify for Medicaid. The HIPP program helps to make sure that a person with a disability can access the right healthcare services for their condition. To be eligible for a HIPP program in Texas, a person must be enrolled in Medicaid and have a disability that could limit the amount of money they can make, such as a mental or physical disability. The disability must also be expected to last at least 12 months. The person must also show that they are unable to pay the private health insurance premiums by themselves. The HIPP program helps cover the cost of the health insurance premiums and also pays other out-of-pocket costs associated with the health plan, such as co-pays and coinsurance. The program also helps to cover the costs of products and services that are not covered by the health plan, such as hearing aids and medical supplies. This program helps Texans with disabilities stay healthy and gives them access to the health care services they need. It is an important part of disability planning for Texans with disabilities and helps ensure that they can stay in control of their health and medical costs.
