What is a disability review?
A disability review is a process administered by the state of California that helps individuals with disabilities and their families plan for the future. It assesses the individual’s current needs and determines what resources may be necessary to meet those needs. It also reviews existing state and local programs and services that may be available to help the individual. The review process begins with a questionnaire that is used to collect information about the individual’s disability and the individual’s current living situation. This information is used to determine the individual’s eligibility for various state and local disability-related services. If the individual is determined to be eligible, the review process can then move forward. The review process utilizes a team approach, which includes the individual’s family, friends, case managers, and other professionals. The team works together to create a plan for the individual’s future. This plan may include such things as housing, education, employment, and financial planning. The team reviews and discusses this plan with the individual and their family to ensure that it meets their needs. Once the plan has been finalized, it is presented to the individual’s county or regional office for approval. The plan must be reviewed and approved by the local Disability Services office before it can be implemented. This process ensures that the individual’s needs are being met and that they have the resources available to them in order to live as independently as possible.
