What is a disability review?
A disability review is a procedure that is used in Virginia to determine whether an individual is entitled to disability benefits. This is done by an independent third party that is qualified to make decisions about disability matters. The review process begins with an initial review, which involves a comprehensive review of the individual’s medical records, financial records, and other relevant information. The review team will consider all factors, including physical, mental, and emotional aspects, as well as educational, employment, and financial backgrounds. After this review, the team will make a recommendation as to whether the individual is eligible for disability benefits. The individual can then undergo a second review, which is more comprehensive and includes an interview with the individual. A panel of medical experts will review the individual’s case and make a recommendation about whether the individual is eligible for benefits. Ultimately, the decision to grant or deny benefits lies with the Department of Veterans Affairs. They will review all documentation and testimonies and make a final decision. The decision is made based on whether or not the individual meets the criteria for disability benefits in Virginia.
