What is a disability attorney?
A disability attorney is a lawyer who specializes in representing those with disabilities in matters of disability law. In Washington, disability attorneys provide legal advice, assistance, and assistance in applying for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. They also help individuals understand their rights under state and federal disability laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Additionally, disability attorneys can represent individuals in appeals of denied or delayed disability payments or in legal proceedings when a disability is at issue. Disability attorneys work to ensure that those with disabilities are able to enjoy the same opportunities and basic rights as their non-disabled counterparts. Disability attorneys may also provide informational services and advocacy on behalf of their clients with regard to other issues, such as housing, employment, and medical care.
