What is a hearing before an administrative law judge (ALJ)?
A hearing before an administrative law judge (ALJ) is a formal legal proceeding that is held to consider matters related to disability planning law in Texas. The hearing is presided over by an administrative law judge (ALJ), who is an impartial and independent decision-maker. In a hearing before an ALJ, one or both parties present their case and the ALJ makes a decision based on the evidence and arguments presented. The ALJ is responsible for making sure that the hearing is conducted properly, including reading all documents, questioning witnesses, and ruling on procedural matters. At the hearing, both parties get to present their case, provide evidence, and explain why the ALJ should rule in their favor. The ALJ will also consider information from the state’s disability programs, including Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). After the hearing, the ALJ will issue a ruling, either granting or denying benefits. If the ALJ denies benefits, the party may be able to appeal the decision. In short, a hearing before an ALJ is a formal hearing in which one or both parties can present their case and the ALJ makes a decision based on the evidence and arguments presented. The ALJ’s decision can be appealed if it is not in the party’s favor.
