Are employers required to provide medical insurance to employees working overseas?

Employers in California are not required to provide medical insurance to their employees who are working overseas. This is due to a variety of different reasons, including the fact that there are different laws and regulations that apply to overseas workers which may be different from those in California. Additionally, different countries may have different policies regarding employee health insurance coverage that may be more or less restrictive than the laws in California. The only way that an employer in California would be required to provide medical insurance to employees overseas would be if they had signed a contract with a foreign country which stipulates that the employer would be responsible for providing a certain amount of health insurance coverage. Even then, the employer need not cover all medical expenses for employees working overseas, as the foreign country may have its own insurance coverage. If an employer wants to provide health insurance coverage to its employees working overseas, it should consult both local employment laws and the laws of the foreign country where the employees are located. Additionally, the employer should make sure that it is compliant with any applicable foreign laws and regulations prior to providing any sort of health insurance coverage.
