What is the process of voting?

In Washington, the process of voting starts with registering to vote. To do this, a person must be at least 18 years old and a United States citizen who lives in Washington. Once registered, the person will receive a voter registration card with their voter identification number. On voting day, the individual must bring a form of photo identification, such as a driver’s license or state-issued ID, to the polling location. The individual will then provide the identification and their voter identification number to a poll worker, who will enter the information into the voting system. The poll worker will then provide the individual with voting materials and direct them to the appropriate voting booth. At the booth, the voter will review the ballot and make a choice on each race or initiative. The voter can cast their ballot by inserting it into the voting machine or by marking it with a pen and then placing it in the ballot box. Once the voter is done casting their ballot, the poll worker will provide them with an “I Voted” sticker. This sticker is a symbol of the voter’s participation in the election process and shows that they have done their part by exercising their right to vote.
