What are the deadlines to register to vote?

In Washington, thedeadlines to register to vote are determined by the centrally-managed elections process. In order to vote in a primary election, you must have been registered no later than 25 days prior to the election date. For General Elections, you must be registered no later than 29 days prior to the election date. The deadline for registering to vote for special elections may vary, so check with your local elections office for more information. You can register to vote online, by mail, or in person at your county elections office. To register online, you will need a state ID or driver’s license, as well as an email address. Once you’ve filled out the online form, the county elections office will process it and contact you with any additional information needed. To register through the mail, you can fill out a registration form, which can be found online at www.sos.wa.gov/elections/voters/. Once you’ve filled it out, mail it to your county elections office and they will process it. Finally, you can also register in person at your county elections office. You will need a state ID or driver’s license when registering in person. It’s important to remember that you must be registered by the deadlines in order to vote in any election, otherwise your vote won’t be counted. It’s also a good idea to check your registration status periodically to make sure it’s up-to-date.
