What is the registration process for overseas voters?

In New Mexico, eligible overseas voters may register to vote by submitting an Overseas Citizen Voter Registration form to their county clerk. To be eligible, an overseas voter must have been a New Mexico resident immediately prior to departing from the United States. The Overseas Citizen Voter Registration form must be completed in full and include both the voter’s name, date of birth, current address and contact information, as well as address information from the time that the voter resided in New Mexico. The form must also be signed and dated. Once completed, the form can be submitted to the county clerk via email, mail, or fax. Once submitted, the New Mexico Secretary of State’s office will review the information and determine if the overseas voter is eligible to register in New Mexico. Overseas voters that are deemed eligible will receive a notification of their voter registration status, as well as instructions on how to request a ballot. Overseas voters who are registered in New Mexico must request their ballot in writing. In their request, overseas voters must provide their name, the address where they were last registered to vote in New Mexico, and their current mailing address outside of the United States. Their request must then be submitted to their county clerk via email, mail, or fax. Once the county clerk receives the request, they will mail the voter a ballot, which must then be completed and submitted to the county clerk before the deadline.
