What are the rules regarding early voting?
Early voting in Arkansas is a convenient way for voters to cast their ballots before Election Day. It is allowed for all elections in the state. The rules regarding early voting vary based on the type of election being held and at what county or other election district the vote is being cast. For general primary and general elections in Arkansas, early voting can begin the twentieth day before the election, excluding Sundays. As an example, for the November 6, 2018 General Election, early voting began on Monday, October 15, 2018. Early voting must end the day before the election, which in this example would be Monday, November 5, 2018. At the discretion of the county election officials, early voting can be extended up to three additional days from the end of the early voting period. However, this must be requested by election officials and the additional early voting days must be approved by the Arkansas Secretary of State. Voters who choose to vote early must fill out an application to do so. This application includes the date and time of the early vote, the address of the polling place where the voter is voting, as well as other personally identifying information. In addition, proof of residency may be required in certain cases. Early voting is an important part of the electoral process in Arkansas, and it should be carefully considered for anyone wishing to cast their ballot before Election Day.
