What are the rules regarding early voting?

In California, early voting (also known as “absentee voting” or “no excuse absentee voting”) is allowed for registered voters. Early voting lasts for 29 days prior to an election. During this period, registered voters can vote by mail or in person at a designated polling place. In California, any voter can request an absentee ballot and cast their vote by mail. To do this, they must fill out an absentee ballot application and return it to the county elections office at least 7 days before the election. They will then receive a ballot in the mail which they must return to the county elections office by 8 pm on the day of the election. California also allows in-person early voting. Registered voters can visit a designated polling place during the early voting period and cast their ballots. The polls will be open during normal business hours, which can vary by jurisdiction, and will also be available on the weekend prior to Election Day. No matter how voters cast their ballots, all ballots must be received by 8 pm on Election Day in order to be counted. Early voting is a great way for registered voters to make sure their voice is heard and their vote is counted.
