What is a parenting plan evaluation?

A parenting plan evaluation is a type of legal assessment used to help determine the best custodial arrangement for a child. In the state of Alaska, such an evaluation is used to evaluate the custody and visitation arrangements of parents of the same or different genders. Typically, the evaluation is conducted by a court-appointed evaluator, such as a psychologist or social worker. The evaluator will consider a variety of factors to determine the most appropriate custody arrangement for a given child, including the child’s wishes, the parents’ abilities to provide for the child’s needs, the influence of each parent on the child, and the ability of the parents to cooperate with one another. In addition to this evaluation, the court will also look at more general factors such as stability of the home environment, the financial standing of each parent, and the potential for travel or relocation. During the evaluation process, both parents will be allowed to submit evidence and provide testimony. The court will then make a decision based on the evidence and recommendations of the evaluator. The parenting plan evaluation is especially important when parents have difficulty communicating and agreeing on the best custodial arrangement for their child. Ultimately, the goal of the evaluation is to create a parenting plan that is in the best interest of the child.
