What are the filing fees for complaints about a violation of Fair Housing Law?
The filing fees associated with filing a complaint about a violation of Fair Housing Law in Washington depend on the type of complaint and the number of respondents. If the complaint alleges only discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or familial status, there is no filing fee. However, if the complaint alleges discrimination on other grounds and/or involves multiple respondents, the filing fee is $25.00 per respondent, up to a maximum of $250.00. For complaints of discrimination based on marital status or sexual orientation, there is no filing fee. For complaints that involve an administrative hearing, the filing fee is $200.00. It is important to note that the filing fees are nonrefundable and must be paid at the time of filing. In addition, the filing fees may be waived or reduced if the Complainant is found to be financially unable to pay.
