Can I take FMLA leave for my own illness?

Yes, you can take Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave for your own illness in Washington State. FMLA provides up to 12 workweeks of unpaid leave in a 12-month period for qualifying medical reasons, including an employee’s own serious health condition that makes them unable to perform the essential functions of their job. To take FMLA leave, you must provide your employer with at least 30 days of advance notice unless it is not feasible to do so.
