What type of notice is required before a foreclosure sale?

In California, a homeowner must receive written notification in the form of a Notice of Default or Notice of Sale before a foreclosure sale can take place. A Notice of Default is a formal letter from the lender to the borrower stating that the borrower has not been paying their loan payments on time according to the terms of their loan agreement.
