Are there any legal requirements for game publishers to ensure customer service?

In Washington, game publishers are legally required to provide customer service in accordance with the Washington Consumer Protection Act (CPA). Under the CPA, game publishers must provide clear and reasonable information in regards to purchases and services. Additionally, it requires that services and products must be provided as described and that customers must be refunded if services are not provided as described. Game publishers must also respond to complaints of customers in a timely manner and cannot charge for consumer service unless it is explicitly stated in their terms of service. Furthermore, when a customer expresses a complaint, the game publisher is required to provide the customer with the name of a contact person or department that can help them resolve the problem. Customers should also be able to contact the game publisher by mail, email, or telephone. Finally, game publishers must also provide an appeal process for customers who are dissatisfied with customer service. In other words, the customer must be able to take their complaint directly to the game publisher’s head office or a higher authority. Overall, game publishers must abide by the requirements of the CPA in order to ensure the best customer service possible in Washington State.
