What is a process server?

A process server is an individual in Maryland who is hired to serve legal documents pertaining to a court case. These documents may include a summons, a complaint, notice of a hearing, or any other legal document related to a case. Process servers are responsible for making sure that the documents are delivered to the appropriate person or individuals in question. In order to do so, process servers must locate the recipient in order to serve them with the court documents. After delivery is complete, the process server will make an affidavit, which is a written statement, and will submit it to the court. This affidavit will prove that the documents were given to the appropriate person or persons. It will also provide the court with evidence of the service in case it is needed for future reference.
