What are the legal requirements for medical marijuana?
In Washington, legal requirements for medical marijuana are outlined in state law. The law requires that medical marijuana can only be used for a qualifying medical condition and a patient must have a signed recommendation from a licensed healthcare provider. Additionally, the patient must be at least eighteen years of age and must have a valid medical marijuana authorization, which is obtained from the Washington State Department of Health. In terms of the actual medical marijuana products, they must be purchased from a licensed retail location that is registered with the state. The product must contain labeling that indicates the source of the product, the strain of the marijuana, the potency and the concentration of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). In terms of usage and storage, a patient must keep the medical marijuana in its original packaging and must not open or use the product in any public space or where cannabis is illegal. Furthermore, medical marijuana patients must also not drive a motor vehicle under the influence of medical marijuana, sell medical marijuana to another person or travel across state lines with it. Finally, medical marijuana patients must be aware of any changes to the state law about medical marijuana.
