What are the different types of human rights?
Human rights are the fundamental rights that each person is entitled to just for being alive. In Florida, these rights are protected by state and federal law. The most basic of human rights are outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which is a list of 30 articles adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948. These rights are further divided into four main categories: civil and political rights, economic, social, and cultural rights, collective rights, and the right to a healthy environment. Civil and political rights are the most widely known human rights, and include the right to freedom of speech, the right to a fair trial, the right to freedom of religion, the right to privacy, and the right to vote. Economic, social, and cultural rights are related to the enjoyment of life, and cover the right to a decent standard of living, the right to food, the right to health care, and the right to education. Collective rights are shared by groups of people and include the rights of ethnic minorities to maintain their culture, the right to social security, and the right to collective bargaining. Finally, the right to a healthy environment is the right to live in an environment free from pollution and other environmental hazards. All of these rights are essential for a healthy, happy society and are protected by both U.S. Federal and Florida state law. While these laws may not be perfect, they help ensure that each person has the same fundamental rights that we all deserve.
