What is the right to health?
The right to health is a human right that is a part of international human rights law in Texas. It is the right for all individuals to have access to the highest possible level of health, including physical and mental health. This right guarantees individuals access to health services, including preventive care, treatment, and medical care for illness and injury. To ensure the right to health, Texas must ensure that individuals have access to preventive health services, healthy and safe working conditions, adequate and nutritious food, clean water and living conditions, and a healthy environment. In addition to physical health, the right to health also includes the right to mental health services and resources, such as psychotherapy and counseling. Mental health is just as important as physical health and individuals should have access to necessary services to ensure optimal wellbeing. The right to health also covers the right to access to health care insurance, access to technology, access to medicines, and other forms of health services. It also includes the right to information about health care, health services, and the right to informed choice and consent in health care decisions. Finally, the right to health also includes the right to freedom from discrimination in the provision of health services. All individuals should be able to access the same quality health services, regardless of their race, gender, orientation, age, or any other factor. All individuals deserve to be treated with dignity and respect when it comes to their health and well-being.
