What is a statement of fact?

A statement of fact is a written or spoken statement that accurately and objectively describes something that is true. In the context of insurance claims law in Mississippi, a statement of fact is a statement made by a party to a claim (for example, an insured, an insurer, an adjuster, etc.) that is true and accurate. For example, a statement of fact might include the amount of a claim or the type of property or coverage involved in a claim. The statement of fact must be based on facts and information that have been properly gathered and verified. When a statement of fact is made in the context of an insurance claim, it must be accurate and truthful in order for it to be used as evidence.
