What happens if my application for asylum is accepted?
If your application for asylum is accepted, you will become a legal resident of Washington. This means that you are now lawfully allowed to stay and work in the state. You will also be given the right to apply for a work permit and Social Security or permanent residency card. This also allows you to receive public benefits, such as health insurance and other government help. You will also be eligible to apply for a green card and citizenship once you have been living in the United States for a certain period of time. With a green card, you will have the right to stay in the United States for a longer period of time and become a U.S. citizen. It also allows you to work, travel, and apply for certain government benefits. If your asylum application is accepted, you can also apply for family unification. This will allow your immediate family members to enter the United States if they meet certain qualifications. By doing this, your family will be able to join you and become citizens as well. It is important to remember that if you are granted asylum, you are not automatically a U.S. citizen. You will still have to follow all of the requirements. Additionally, if you have committed any crimes while in the United States, your asylum status may be revoked.
