How long do I have to remain in the U.S. after getting asylum?

Depending on your individual circumstances, the length of time you have to remain in the U.S. after being granted asylum can vary. Generally, individuals who receive asylum in the state of Tennessee will have to reside in the U.S. for a minimum of one year in order to qualify for permanent resident status. The exact requirements may differ depending on the specific reasons for claiming asylum. For example, if you were granted asylum on the grounds that you had a well-founded fear of persecution based on your race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group, you would be eligible for permanent residence after one year of being physically present in the U.S. However, if you were granted asylum based on other factors such as a fear of torture, extreme hardship, or problems with family reunification, then you may have to remain in the U.S. for more than one year before you can qualify for permanent residence. In any case, once you are granted asylum, you will have the right to work and travel in the U.S. and will not be required to leave the country. You may also be eligible for certain benefits such as Medicaid or school enrollment. However, you will need to maintain a valid immigration status and comply with the requirements of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
