What is the EB-5 visa and who is eligible for it?

The EB-5 visa is a federal program that provides green cards to foreign investors who make substantial investments in the United States and create jobs for American citizens. The program was created in 1990 by Congress in order to stimulate the U.S. economy by encouraging foreign investment. It is administered by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). In order to qualify for the EB-5 visa and be eligible to apply for a green card, a foreign investor must make an investment in a commercial enterprise in the U.S. The investment must be at least $1,000,000 (or in certain cases, $500,000) and must create or maintain at least 10 full-time jobs for qualifying U.S. workers. The investment must be in a business that is not primarily engaged in creating or performing speculative investments. In addition to the financial qualifications, applicants must demonstrate other evidence that they are qualified to obtain the EB-5 visa. This includes, but is not limited to, having a plan for job creation, experience in a field relevant to the investment, and evidence of sufficient capital to finance the investment. In New Hampshire, immigrants can apply for the EB-5 visa through the New Hampshire EB-5 Regional Center. This program allows foreign investors to invest in approved New Hampshire businesses and qualify for a green card. The New Hampshire Regional Center provides pre-screened business opportunities and assists individuals with the application process.
