Are there any special programs available to children who are victims of trafficking?
Yes, there are special programs available to children who are victims of trafficking in Washington. The Washington State Office of Refugees and Immigrants (ORI) is dedicated to providing help for individuals who are victims of trafficking. ORI works to increase access to services and protections for all victims of trafficking, including the most vulnerable: women, children, and unaccompanied minors. Victims of trafficking may be eligible for public benefits, immigration services, and immigration-related protections in accordance with applicable federal and state laws. ORI works with partners across the public and private sector, including law enforcement and non-governmental organizations, to ensure victims of trafficking are safe and connected with the help they need. ORI also helps foreign-born victims of trafficking and children in particular access social services, including shelter and crisis counseling. ORI works in partnership with the state Department of Social and Health Services to provide federal and state-funded programs that offer long-term solutions for victims who are unable to return home or who choose to remain in the United States. In addition, ORI works closely with the Washington State Department of Children, Youth & Families (DCYF) to ensure the safety of foreign-born children who have been trafficked into Washington. DCYF provides specialized programming for these children, including health care, mental health services, and educational resources. This programming helps these children transition into safe and healthy environments as they heal from their trauma.
