What is an Administrative Removal Order?

An Administrative Removal Order (ARO) is a legal document issued by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that orders a person to be removed from the United States. This order is issued when a person is believed to have violated U.S. immigration laws and must leave the country. In South Carolina, this document is issued to individuals believed to be in the U.S. unlawfully and who have failed to show that they meet the requirements for legal status. An ARO is considered a final decision and an individual is immediately deportable from the country when the order is issued. It is important to note that an ARO can be challenged and an individual can appeal the decision if they believe the order is wrong. This appeal must be made in writing and must be accompanied by evidence that shows the individual is entitled to remain in the United States legally. It is important to seek legal advice as soon as an ARO is received in order to understand the rights and responsibilities of the individual in question.
