What is a Reentry Permit?

A Reentry Permit is a document issued by the U.S. government to individuals who are subject to deportation from the state of Arizona. This document allows an immigrant to travel to their home country and re-enter the United States without facing deportation. The permit is valid for two years and can be renewed. It is important to note that the permit does not guarantee re-entry into the United States, as the individual may still be subject to removal proceedings upon their attempted return. A Reentry Permit is issued to those immigrants who are not eligible for a visa or who the Department of Homeland Security deems ineligible for other forms of immigration relief. The immigrant must present proof that their absences from the United States will be temporary and must demonstrate that they have strong ties to the United States. In some cases, a bond may be required as a condition of the Reentry Permit. Upon returning to the United States with a valid Reentry Permit, the immigrant is legally allowed to stay in the country, work, and travel. However, they are still subject to removal proceedings if they fail to comply with the conditions of their permit. Therefore, if they do not maintain their immigration status, they may still face deportation. Additionally, the immigrant is not eligible for certain benefits such as public assistance, government healthcare, and government-sponsored housing.
