What is a Reentry Permit?
A Reentry Permit is a document that allows an immigrant to leave and reenter the United States after they have been legally admitted to the country. In the state of Florida, this document is typically used when an immigrant needs to leave the United States temporarily for a period of up to two years. Those who have obtained a Reentry Permit are able to return to the U.S. without having to obtain another visa or apply for admission. Those who are subject to deportation and who wish to leave the U.S. temporarily must obtain a Reentry Permit before departing. This is to avoid an automatic administrative order of exclusion, which would make it impossible to reenter the U.S. A Reentry Permit allows those subject to removal proceedings to leave the U.S. and return before their removal proceedings are complete. Those who have been ordered deported are not eligible to obtain a Reentry Permit and may be subject to deportation if they attempted to reenter the U.S. without the proper documentation. It is important to understand that a Reentry Permit does not guarantee admission into the U.S., and those attempting to enter without the proper documentation may still be subject to deportation.
