What is an E visa?

An E visa is a type of non-immigrant visa that allows foreign nationals from certain treaty countries to come to the United States for the purpose of engaging in international trade or investment. E visas are divided into two categories in Tennessee, the E-1 visa and the E-2 visa. The E-1 visa is for treaty traders, which includes merchants, investors, and key executives and employees of a business. The E-2 visa is for treaty investors, which includes those investing in a U.S. business and those who are working in the business or managing it. Both categories of E visas allow for temporary entry into the U.S. and the ability to work and/or invest in U.S. businesses. In order to qualify for an E visa in Tennessee, the applicant must be a citizen of a treaty country, have invested or is in the process of investing a substantial amount of capital in a U.S. business, and the investment must be in the interest of both countries. Additionally, the applicant must be coming to the U.S. to conduct business activity such as trading goods or services, or managing or developing a business in which the applicant has invested. This type of visa is typically valid for two to five years, with the option to extend if needed.
