What is the H-2B visa?
The H-2B visa is a type of non-immigrant visa offered by the United States government to temporary and seasonal workers from foreign countries. It is available to individuals who are coming to the United States to perform non-agricultural labor or services of a temporary or seasonal nature and are otherwise ineligible for immigrant visas. In Arizona, the H-2B visa is most commonly used to hire foreign workers who work in the hospitality industry, construction, and manufacturing. It is available to workers who are willing to do jobs that can’t be filled by U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents. To be eligible for the H-2B visa, applicants must have a job offer and the job must be for a specific amount of time. The H-2B visa allows foreign nationals to remain in the United States for up to one year. After this one-year period, the worker must then either leave the country or apply for a new H-2B visa if they wish to extend their stay. The employer must also comply with certain requirements when hiring H-2B workers, such as paying the same wages and benefits as they would to a U.S. worker in the same job. Overall, the H-2B visa is a way for foreign workers to find temporary employment in Arizona and other parts of the United States. It provides an opportunity for businesses to fill labor shortages that can’t be filled by U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents, while also giving foreign workers the chance to gain valuable work experience in the United States.
