What is the E-2 visa?
The E-2 visa is a visa specifically designed for foreign nationals seeking to enter the United States temporarily to invest in or oversee a business that is already established or that they plan to set up. This type of visa is available to nationals from countries with which the United States has a qualifying treaty or other agreements. In Colorado, foreign investors may use the E-2 visa to enter the United States to invest in a business in which they already have established ownership, to develop and direct that business, and to work in that business. To qualify for the E-2 visa, the foreign investor must be from a qualifying country, possess the necessary funds to make the investment, and make a substantial investment with an active and ongoing business that provides goods or services. Additionally, the investor must prove that they have direct control over the business and the day-to-day operations and that the business will create jobs for US workers. The E-2 visa allows foreign investors to stay in the US for two years, and can be renewed for additional periods of up to two years each time. The family of the visa holder can also enter the United States for the same period of time. The E-2 visa is a great way to allow foreign investors to come to the US to oversee their investments and provide much needed employment opportunities for US workers.
