What is a T visa?
A T visa is a special visa created by the U.S. government to help individuals who have been victims of human trafficking. This type of visa is specifically for individuals who have been trafficked into the United States into conditions of involuntary servitude, debt bondage, or slavery. The T visa was created by the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, and it was made to offer protection and assistance to victims of trafficking. The T visa is a temporary form of immigration relief that allows victims of trafficking to stay legally in the country and recover from their experiences. In order to qualify for a T visa, an individual must meet certain criteria. They must demonstrate that they are victims of human trafficking and that they were trafficked into the United States. Additionally, they must show that they are willing to cooperate with law enforcement in order to bring traffickers to justice and that they would suffer extreme hardship if they were removed from the United States. In North Carolina, the Department of Justice administers the T visa program and assists victims of human trafficking in applying for the visa. The T visa can provide the victim with an opportunity to stay in the country legally and with a way to reunite with family members who are citizens or lawful residents of the United States.
