How do different jurisdictions view the enforcement of foreign judgments?

When a court in one jurisdiction (country or state) renders a judgment, the judgment is usually binding only in that jurisdiction and is not recognized or enforceable in other jurisdictions. As a result, a person who has been granted a judgment from a court in one jurisdiction may not be able to recover the judgment in another jurisdiction unless that jurisdiction enforces judgments from other jurisdictions. In Florida, foreign judgments (judgments from other countries or states) are enforced through the Florida Enforcement of Foreign Judgments Act. In general, foreign judgments will be enforced in Florida if they meet certain requirements, such as: they are final, valid, and enforceable in the court where they were rendered; they were entered by a court of competent jurisdiction; they are not contrary to Florida law; they are not obtained by fraud; and they are not previously satisfied or released. When enforcing a foreign judgment, Florida courts will generally recognize the laws and procedures related to it. However, the court may impose additional requirements or limitations, such as time restrictions, based on the laws of the court in which the judgment was rendered. Additionally, the court may also order that a surety bond or other security be provided in order to ensure that the judgment is met. Overall, the enforcement of foreign judgments in Florida is complicated and requires that the laws and procedures of the court in which the judgment was rendered be closely followed. However, with proper guidance and representation, a foreign judgment may be enforced effectively in Florida.
